carousel on the moon

first it was a sliver,
stuck you in the thigh
then it was a whole half,
took you for a ride
and you wore your best clothes,
but it saw your own skin
it saw your whole body,
and the state that you’re in.
you sat in the carriage,
it spun you around,
and you saw the sunrise,
and you saw your hometown.
you flipped over backwards,
over on the light side
then you saw the real face,
it was such a surprise.
and you grew by inches,
and you shrunk by degrees,
but it was the real thing,
now you do as you please.

and when it was all done,
we said thank you to the sun.

i went into orbit
just to be there with you
bankrupt on the ticket,
didn't need an excuse.
with my pockets empty,
saw myself from all sides
and i took that with me,
went again for half price.
we sat in the carriage,
and you were the seatbelt
now i know that till then,
i never knew how i felt.
sometimes i get backwards,
going down the wrong track
but i took one souvenir,
and i don't want the rest back.
now when i feel weightless,
and i get weak in the knees,
i know it's the real thing
then i do as i please.

and when it is all done,
i'll say thank you to the sun.
