big dream

you wanna take your car, but it won’t go that far
the carman has your keys. as far as he can see,
you just can’t make it there, to the big city.

you sit in the AC, aboard the eight one three
over the glory holes and all the paper news
guts all made of lead, filled up with clues.

i had a big dream, down where i lay in the seam.
and then i came clean, but what in the hell did it mean?

HD to PCU, headache to bathroom stall
city flush the suburb drain, the reservoir is full
track trash flushed from trains, no-one’s to blame.

click it’s six and i’m a little late click
where are you now? i’m getting impatient
quick i’m stuck in the escalator grate

i had a big dream, down where i lay in the seam.
and then i came clean, but what in the hell did it mean?

shoelace broke under the strain of
running for the platform in the heat today.
you stand panting on the dock,
and watch suits flow like a sweaty itchy bay.
sixteen hours to town, smiles and cries and frown,

so you sit at the desk with your head bowed down.

i had a big dream, down where i lay in the seam.
and then i came clean, but what in the hell did it mean?
what in the hell did it mean, what in the hell did it mean?
